In 2012 people can explore several novelties in Legoland California: the park will be updating the Star Wars Miniland area, a new pirate-themed shoot-the-chutes water ride will be added and in the SeaLife Aquarium, they will install a crab exhibit.
The existing Star Wars Miniland opened last season in Legoland California. Using simple Lego bricks, several scenes have been created using a 1:20 scale. For this season, the Star Wars Gallery will be getting a few new scenes, including some Lego models of several characters from the epic film saga, including Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2D2, Yoda and Darth Vader. Also new characters, weapons and spacecrafts will be introduced.
A new major ride is also scheduled to open this season: Pirate Reef, a shoot-the-chutes water ride that will take riders down an 8m drop. The ride is scheduled to open on May 24th. It is being built by Hopkins Amusement Rides, an American company, based in Florida.
The ride will get some nice theming, like a pair of pirate ships flanking the flume ride. They will be armed with water cannons capable of soaking any riders. But also pedestrians can be soaked, because of the splashdown.

Finally also the separate-admission SeaLife Aquarium plans to open a new exhibit, the so called Claws exhibit. The aquarium-exhibit will contain Japanese spider crabs, coconut crabs, land crabs, lobsters and prawns.
