The racing theme park Ferrari World in Abu Dahbi, has decided to laid off more than 100 employees and certain top managers as timings have been changed.
The park's operating company, Farah Leisure Parks Management, said the redundancies were a result of the park's shortened opening hours. The park was previously opened from noon until 10pm on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesday; and from noon until midnight on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday.
Now the opening hours have been changed into 11AM until 8PM every day, except on Monday, when the park will remain closed. "In some areas there has been a reduction in staffing levels in line with the new timings," a spokesman said.
The program of cutbacks is to "meet cost reduction targets" according the official letter sent by Farah Leisure.
In addition to the elimination of 100 positions, remaining staff also face salary and benefits adjustments, which will vary according to employees' salary grades.
One of the park's six restaurants is also expected to close.
Ferrari World has been developed by Aldar Properties, and owned by the Abu Dhabi government. The park is considered to be the world's largest indoor theme park and especially known for the 200,000 m² Ferrari-red roof and the world's fastest roller coaster, Formula Rossa.
