Global workshop Okapi's in Zoo Antwerp

ZOO Antwerpen coordinates the worldwide breeding program of the okapi. Thus the Zoo manages their family tree and gives advice to other zoos. Every birth and death of the okapi is registered worldwide at ZOO Antwerp. ZOO Antwerpen actually regulates the breeding of these animals and thus its survival. The absolute top of okapi caregivers gathers in Antwerp from October 11 to October 14.

To optimize the breeding program and its cooperation, ZOO Antwerp currently facilitates the second global workshop for caregivers worldwide. The first one took place in Dallas and proved the importance of a workshop on the okapi. This exchange of information and mutual advice is important to create optimal conditions for a positive culture result.

ZOO Antwerpen welcomes participants from Germany, the Netherlands, England, the Czech Republic and the America's. 15 different zoos to send their specialists. The program includes topics such as nutrition and diet flared, locomotion and hoof care, differences in behavior (effects of sex, location, season and personality), the impact of visitors on their behavior and the global status of the okapi in zoos. The findings of the Epulu Research Station in the Congo are also discussed.
